Report: Former-Spur could make £8.5m transfer to the Premier League

Former-Spur, Nabil Bentaleb, could join Newcastle United permanently this summer for £8.5M, according to the Chronicle and Express.

As a result of the financial issues, Schalke are hoping that Newcastle will make the Algerian’s loan move a permanent one this summer.

Bentaleb joined the Magpies earlier this year on loan and made six appearances for Steve Bruce’s side before the Premier League was paused due to the COVID-19 pandemic (Transfermarkt).

During his brief spell at Newcastle, the midfielder has also earned himself four yellow cards across the six games he played in all competitions (Transfermarkt).

The Algerian joined Spurs in 2012 and is a product of the Tottenham academy after having trials at Birmingham City.

As is the case for many players now, the Magpies will require an agreement with Schalke to extend Bentaleb’s loan until the end of the season with it due to expire this month.

The report adds that the potential new Newcastle owners are hoping any contractual negotiations can go through them as they hope to seal the purchase of the club in the near future.

Spurs Web Opinion

Bentaleb had a few good moments in a Spurs shirt. The one which stands out for me is the cross which Harry Kane headered home to beat Arsenal at home in 2015. I think it’s fair to say he was never quite up to the level of playing in a top-four team, however, he did give it 110%.
