Report: Former Spur set for a surprise return to the Premier League

Former Tottenham Hotspur and Arsenal striker Emmanuel Adebayor could be set for a surprise return to the Premier League.

The Mail report that West Ham, Sheffield United and Watford are interested in the 35-year-old who left Istanbul Basaksehir on Friday after joining the club on a free transfer eighteen months ago.

Adebayor scored 28 goals in 76 matches during his two-and-a-half-year spell in Turkey and is also said to be on the radar of Celtic.

The Togo international had his contract terminated by mutual agreement at White Hart Lane in September 2015.

Adebayo was not been included in Mauricio Pochettino’s 25-man Premier League squad for the 2015/16 season or given a squad number and was one of the first major casualties of the Pochettino era after only making 17 appearances in all competitions, netting twice during the Argentine’s first season in charge.

However, it now appears he could be set for a return to these shores for the first time since 2016.

Opinion

Adebayor did well under Tim Sherwood but he was the type of personality which certainly did not fit in with the ethos which Mauricio Pochettino has instilled into his players.

I’m sure he’ll get a good reception if he does make an appearance at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium next season.
