Report: Former Spurs sporting director wants to sign current star

Tottenham Hotspur defender, Jan Vertonghen, has not enjoyed his best season in a Spurs shirt since the start of the 2019/20 campaign.

Pochettino dropped him for the first few matches in the Premier League and, although Jan worked his way back into the side, he appears to have been dropped again.

The Belgian centre-back was benched for the match against Liverpool and left out of the squad entirely for the game against Everton yesterday.

The first-choice pairing in these last two games has been Toby Alderweireld and Davinson Sanchez, who have looked slightly more solid than the former did with Vertonghen.

Vertonghen’s contract runs out at the end of this season, meaning that the 32-year-old can talk to non-English clubs about a pre-contract deal in January, before leaving on a free in the summer.

It remains to be seen whether Spurs offer him a new deal, but Takvim in Turkey have reported that ex-Spurs sporting director, now of Fenerbahce, Damien Comolli is interested in signing Vertonghen.
