Report: Four candidates still in the frame for Spurs job; Ten Hag remains ‘popular’

Tottenham Hotspur still have an interest in Ajax manager Erik ten Hag, despite the fact he recently signed a new contract at the Dutch giants.

The Athletic claim that Tottenham have a shortlist of four managers which included ten Hag, Roberto Martinez, Graham Potter and Ralf Rangnick, with all four said to be still in contention given the complications the club would face over luring Mauricio Pochettino back to North London.

Last month, ten Hag penned a one-year contract extension with the Eredivisie outfit until 2023 but it is said that he would still be within Tottenham’s reach should they wish to proceed and is still popular among the club.

The 51-year-old is said to be happy at Ajax, where he has won everything on offer domestically and enjoys a good relationship with director of football, Marc Overmars (Guardian).

Spurs chairman Daniel Levy admitted in a letter to supporters earlier this month that he wants to appoint a new head coach who will return to the club’s traditions of playing a free-flowing style of football while also looking to promote from the club’s academy set-up.
