Report: Free agent Ginter decides where he wants to go next amidst Spurs links

Sky Germany have revealed that rumoured Tottenham target Matthias Ginter is set to return to his former club Freiburg.

Ginter has been a consistent performer for Borussia Monchengladbach and an indispensable part of their backline since arriving from Borussia Dortmund in the summer of 2017.

The versatile defender was alleged to be on Tottenham’s radar during last summer’s transfer window (Bild 17/05/21 via Sport Witness) but he ended up staying put at Borussia Park.

Some sources had alleged that Spurs were monitoring the 27-year-old’s contract situation ahead of the January transfer window (CalcioMercato), with his current contract at Gladbach running out this summer (Transfermarkt).

The German international said in an interview with Sport1 last month that he was yet to make a decision on his future.

However, Sky Germany have now revealed that Ginter is about to return to Freiburg, where he started his senior career before moving to Dortmund in 2014.

The report claims the centre-back will return to the Europa-Park Stadion on a free transfer and is expected to put pen to paper on a contract this week.

Spurs Web Opinion

Ginter was probably never really a serious option for Spurs, which is not surprising given that we have a fair few options for the right centre-back position.

If Tottenham held a serious interest in the 28-year-old, one would have expected the club to intervene, given that Ginter is reportedly moving on a free transfer.
