Report: Free agent rejects Tottenham’s contract offer

Fernando Llorente’s exit from Tottenham Hotspur was certainly one of the strangest departures from the club in recent times.

While the likes of Michel Vorm were treated to some media attention from the club’s official website when the goalkeeper departed after his contract expired in North London, Llorente received no such fanfare.

Llorente secured a place in the hearts of many Spurs fans following his heroics in last season’s Champions League campaign.

The Spaniard came up with some vital contribtions during the latter stages of the competition after scoring against Borussa Dortmund and the controversial winner at Manchester City while also helping to change the course of the second leg against Ajax in the semi-final in Amsterdam.

Football Insider report that Llorente has rejected the opportunity to link back up with Tottenham after receiving a revised contract offer which included a lower salary than the £90,000 a week he earned following his move from Swansea City.

The report claims that the 34-year-old is open to remaining in the Premier League whilst there is also interest from Italy.

Opinion

If Spurs are unable to agree to a deal with Llorente, at the very least they should publically thank him for his service to the club in the same manner which Vorm received.
