Report: French side make enquiry for £42m Tottenham player

French side Nice have made an enquiry for Tottenham Hotspur defender Davinson Sanchez, but the player does not want to leave, according to the Daily Mail.

Sanchez joined Spurs back in the summer of 2018 for a then club-record £42million fee from Ajax (Guardian), and has racked up 195 appearances for the club, scoring five goals along the way (Transfermarkt).

The Colombian international has been in and out of Antonio Conte’s team this season, making just 14 appearances in all competitions (Transfermarkt) and spending a lot of time on the bench while behind the likes of Eric Dier and Cristian Romero in the defensive pecking order.

With Conte reportedly keen to bolster his options in the centre of defence in the summer (Football.London), Sanchez’s long-term future at Spurs could well be in doubt.

The player has been linked with moves in the past, with teams such as AC Milan (CalcioMercato) and Monaco (Football.London), rumoured to be interested in securing his services during the summer of 2022.

Now, it sounds like there’s fresh interest in the 26-year-old, but the player himself is not keen on the idea of leaving North London this month.

In the report from the Daily Mail, it is suggested that Nice “are keen to bring in the 26-year-old in this window” to improve their disappointing campaign in Ligue 1 so far.

Whether Spurs want to let Sanchez go or not remains to be seen, but it is thought Sanchez “is not thought to be keen on moving currently despite being out-of-favour at Spurs.”

With just days left of the January transfer window, there would have to be some pretty swift movement to get this deal going in time, especially given the player’s reluctance to entertain the idea of a switch along with the club having to bring in a replacement.

Spurs Web Opinion

I know Sanchez isn’t our best defender, but he’s probably just valuable enough that we should keep hold of him for now. At least until we bring in another couple of centre-backs anyway, but hopefully we can work on that in the summer and can upgrade.
