Report: Fulham interested in loan with option to buy move for Spurs man

Newly-promoted Fulham are the latest team to show an interest in Tottenham’s Sergio Reguilon, with the Cottagers exploring the option of taking the Spanish defender on loan.

Reguilon has been deemed surplus to requirements by Spurs boss Antonio Conte (Football.London), and the North London club have spent the summer trying to offload the 25-year-old without success.

Reports suggest Tottenham Hotspur have become frustrated with the ongoing saga surrounding some of their outgoings (The Daily Mail), while Reguilon also recently picked up an injury, which could also hold up any potential move (The Daily Mail).

While much of the interest in Reguilon has come from abroad this summer, with Italian sides Atlanta (Bergamo Corriere) and Lazio (CalcioMercato) recently linked, speculation is mounting that the Spanish star could stay in England.

Nottingham Forest were reported to be looking at Reguilon as they continue their busy summer of transfer dealings (The Athletic), but on the latest episode of the Here We Go Podcast (23/08/22), Fabrizio Romano claimed the player had “different priorities.”

Now, it could be fellow Premier League new boys Fulham who pursue a move for the Spurs outcast. According to The Sun journalist Tom Barclay, the West London outfit are ready to challenge Lazio for Reguilon’s services.

After failing to secure a permanent move for Reguilon, Spurs appear resigned to sending him out on loan. Lazio are believed to be eyeing a loan move with an option to buy, and it is thought Fulham would look at a similar deal.

Reguilon has made 67 appearances for Spurs and scored two goals during his time in North London (Transfermarkt). He has fallen out of favour since Conte’s arrival, for his apparent failure to adapt to the Italian’s style of play.

Reguilon is now one of the final players left to move on from Spurs since the likes of Giovani Lo Celso and Tanguy Ndombele have secured loans out of the club.

While Tottenham were keen to generate some income from player sales, getting these fringe players away from the squad is crucial as the transfer deadline fast approaches.

Here’s hoping a deal can be struck sooner rather than later so the club can focus on bringing in one or two new signings before the window closes.
