Report: Futures of six Spurs players uncertain amidst Conte’s ‘ruthless overhaul’

Antonio Conte is set to lead a major overhaul of his Tottenham squad this month with up to six players in danger of being listed for transfer, according to ESPN.

The Italian coach is currently undergoing his first transfer window as Tottenham boss and reports have claimed that it is expected to be a busy one.

Conte delivered a blunt response to his side’s defeat in the Carabao Cup semi-final first leg to Chelsea, labelling Spurs a ‘middle’ club that needs to close the gap in quality on the teams above them.

He also reiterated the need for patience throughout the entire process and admitted it would not be easy to turn Spurs into a competitive outfit again.

However, things appear to be moving in the right direction, with ESPN now claiming the former Inter Milan boss has held meetings with Spurs chiefs regarding a ‘ruthless’ transfer strategy to rebuild his squad.

The report states that Conte is willing to offload the likes of Dele Alli, Tanguy Ndombele, Steven Bergwijn and Matt Doherty, while the futures of Giovani Lo Celso and Japhet Tanganga are said to be uncertain.

It adds that chairman Daniel Levy will run the rule and likely listen to the manager’s suggestions, with things expected to start this month despite the known challenges about acquiring the right players in the January market.

The January transfer market is notorious for being tricky to operate in, with prices of desired players usually hiked. Conte has mentioned that patience will be needed, but made sure he was honest in saying that Spurs need a fresh outlook for the squad going forward.
