Report: Galatasaray showing interest in Tottenham player

Jan Vertonghen is rumoured to have attracted the interest of Turkish side Galatasaray with the experienced defender currently heading for the exit door in North London, according to Turkish outlet Milliyet.

The Belgian has been linked with a move to Italy with his contract coming to an end this summer and he appears not to be short of options.

Inter, Napoli, AS Roma and Fiorentina have all reportedly shown some interest in Vertonghen as they look to bring in the experienced Premier League defender on a free transfer.

The report claims Galatasary are concerned about the future of their central defensive pair of Marcao and Christian Luyindama.

However, Milliyet claim Galatasaray are only looking to offer the Belgian around £1.8m per year which is unlikely to tempt the 33-year-old.

Vertonghen is said to be assessing his options over a move to Italy, but Galatasary will have to seriously up their offer if they are to be a serious contender.

Spurs Web Opinion

I can’t see Vertonghen going to Turkey, personally. However, even if he was to consider it, the reported wage packet from Galatasaray is insulting to the veteran. Vertonghen may have lost a couple of yards in pace but he brings a wealth of experience to any potential suitor.
