Report: German clubs now leading race for Championship starlet linked with Spurs

The Sun have revealed that Bundesliga clubs are now leading the race for Peterborough United starlet Ronnie Edwards, who is wanted by Tottenham.

Edwards has enjoyed a breakthrough season in the Championship and has been one of Peterborough’s shining lights in what has been a campaign to forget so far.

Football Insider previously claimed that Spurs had sent scouts to assess the young defender this season and had been impressed by what they had seen. It was alleged that the North London club were prepared to step up their interest in the 19-year-old.

However, The Daily Mail subsequently reported that Crystal Palace had also entered the race for the centre-back and were hopeful of beating Tottenham to the player’s signature.

If The Sun’s latest update is to be believed, Bundesliga trio RB Leipzig, Eintracht Frankfurt and Borussia Dortmund have now moved ahead of all the Premier League clubs including Spurs in the race for Edwards.

It is alleged that the Peterborough star, who is valued between £15m and £20m, looks set to be the next young English player to head off to Germany.

Spurs Web Opinion

Among the EFL talents we have linked with over the past few months, Edwards is arguably the most promising (along with Djed Spence), given how he has performed for a poor Peterborough side.

However, I would not be surprised if the centre-back preferred to move to the Bundesliga as he is much likelier to get first-team opportunities in Germany than in the Premier League.
