Report: Giovani Lo Celso rejects loan approach

Tottenham Hotspur midfielder Giovani Lo Celso has rejected the opportunity of a loan deal to Lyon yesterday evening, according to RMC journalist Loic Tanzi.

Instead, the French club are moving forward with a loan deal for their former midfielder Tanguy Ndombele, which includes the option to make the deal permanent.

The midfielder has struggled to make a sustained impact since his move from Real Betis, initially on a temporary basis in 2019 before they paid £27.2million (BBC Sport) on top of an initial loan fee of £15m and has made just two Premier League starts this season (transfermarkt).

Antonio Conte left the Argentina international out of his match day squad for the recent Premier League defeat at Chelsea, with the player taking to Instagram to claim he was not injured and was fit to play.

Lo Celso has failed to hit the heights expected of him at Tottenham and is too often injured, yet is able to look like a completely different player when he is on international duty. Frankly, he could not lace Christian Eriksen’s shoes and should accept that he has no future at the club.
