Report gives update on new Japhet Tanganga contract with Tottenham

Tottenham Hotspur have reportedly made progress in talks with Japhet Tanganga over a new contract in North London.

The 20-year-old central defender has broken through this season, first under Mauricio Pochettino for his Spurs debut, and then under Jose Mourinho for his Premier League debut.

The youngster has been a regular over the past month, playing games at centre-back, right-back, and left-back, coming up against the likes of Mo Salah, Sadio Mane, Raheem Sterling, and Riyad Mahrez.

Football Insider now say that Tottenham are closing in on a new contract with the defender after Tanganga turned down their initial offer. Talks have been ongoing for months now, but progress has been made.

Tanganga played 90 minutes in games against Middlesbrough and Southampton twice in the FA Cup. He also played all 90 in the Premier League against Liverpool, Watford, and Man City (TransferMarkt).

Transfer Markt say his current market value is £7.2m.

Spurs Web Opinion:

This deal needs to be done and Tanganga simply must be made a regular started alongside either Sanchez or Alderweireld. I would like to see him moved into a central position rather than at full-back too.
