Report: Graham Potter could look to take Spurs target to Chelsea in January

CalcioMercatoWeb have claimed that Chelsea could look to snap up AS Roma winger Nicolo Zaniolo, who is also wanted by Tottenham Hotspur.

It was reported during the summer transfer window that Spurs came ‘very close’ to signing Zaniolo (Corriere dello Sport 22/08/22 via Sport Witness) but the winger stayed put at the Stadio Olimpico.

CalcioMercatoWeb reported last week that Tottenham’s North London rivals, Arsenal, could enter the race for the Italy international during the January transfer window.

The report explained that Roma would be receptive to a part-exchange offer from the Gunners involving Gabriel Magalhaes since Jose Mourinho is keen on bolstering his options at centre-back.

The same publication has now suggested that another London club in Chelsea could vie for Zaniolo’s signature in January.

It is explained that new Chelsea boss Graham Potter could offload several attackers in the winter transfer market, which would open the door for the Blues to snap up the Roma star.

CMW add that should the Gioallorossi not agree on a new deal with Zaniolo soon, they might be willing to offload him for €50m (£43.3m).

The report claims that such an offer from a Premier League club would rule Juventus out of the race for the winger as the Old Lady would not be able to match the bid.

Spurs Web Opinion

There is no doubt that plenty of clubs would be circling around Zaniolo in January if the winger does not sign a new deal with Roma. Spurs would likely be one of those clubs, given that Conte and Paratici rate the 23-year-old highly.

However, there is plenty of time left until the January window, and the winger’s situation, as well as the priorities of the clubs chasing him, could change before then.
