Report: Harry Kane contract update as Man Utd have ‘already begun’ pursuit

The Telegraph have revealed that Manchester United have already started to lay the groundwork on a summer deal for Harry Kane.

The report states that there is ‘very little chance’ that Kane, who will enter the final year of his contract at Tottenham this June, would commit himself to a new deal with his boyhood club.

Man Utd are said to be aware of the striker’s unwillingness to commit but they also expect Daniel Levy to make the negotiations very difficult.

That is why the Red Devils have allegedly already started their attempts to find out what it would take to sign the England captain this summer.

It is explained that United do not want negotiations for the centre-forward to carry on until the end of the transfer window and want sufficient time to turn their attention toward other targets like Napoli’s Victor Osinhen if a deal for the Spurs star is not possible.

Erik Ten Hag’s men are thus said to be doing their due diligence on what kind of fee it would take to prise Kane away from Tottenham and on how to approach the negotiations with Levy.

The Telegraph claim that the Spurs chairman might be prepared to listen to offers in the region of £80m from overseas for the striker but he will demand ‘at least £100m’ from English clubs.

He may even decide to reject bids from the Premier League altogether.

Even if Levy does not reject the offers for Kane outright, there is no doubt that he will make any negotiations painfully difficult.

So, if United are not prepared to fight tooth and nail to get the 29-year-old, they would probably have to turn their attention to other alternatives.
