Report: Harry Kane was surprised by what Spurs fans did at the weekend

Harry Kane is believed to have been ‘taken aback’ by the rousing reception he received from Tottenham fans on Sunday against Wolverhampton Wanderers.

The England captain announced on Wednesday that he will be staying at Spurs this summer, bringing a temporary end to speculation linking the forward to Manchester City.

Kane posted a message on Twitter saying: “It was incredible to see the reception from the Spurs fans on Sunday and to read some of the messages of support I’ve had in the last few weeks.

“I will be staying at Tottenham this summer and will be 100 per cent focused on helping the team achieve success. #COYS.”

Tensions were high throughout this transfer saga, though, after Kane reportedly failed to turn up to Spurs training on his designated return date, to which he denied.

Kane returned to action last weekend by coming on as a substitute in Spurs’ 1-0 victory at Wolves, where he received a rousing reception from the travelling supporters.

The 28-year-old was subject to boos by Wolves fans as he stepped off the coach into the stadium, but football.london believe Kane has been somewhat surprised by the backing he received from Spurs fans at Molineux.

As soon as Kane stepped onto the field of play with less than 20 minutes to go, the thousands of travelling fans applauded and sung his name to show their love for the club’s second-highest goalscorer of all time.

The reception was a far cry in comparison to Spurs’ opening day victory, ironically against Man City, where Kane was left out of the squad altogether.

It is good that this saga has come to an end, for now at least, so Nuno Espirito Santo can finally focus his sole attention on the performances only.

Kane has received a lot of support as a result of yesterday’s decision, but many will still need to be convinced about taking him back after all the drama this summer.

When he gets back to doing what he does and scoring goals, that may come to be a bit easier.
