Tottenham Hotspur may have potentially dodged a bullet after The Daily Mail reported that Inter Milan centre-back Milan Skriniar has tested positive for COVID-19.
Skriniar was reported to be Jose Mourinho’s main centre-back target in the transfer window (Football.London), with Steve Hitchen even being spotted in Italy with the centre-back’s agent a couple of weeks ago (Gianluca Di Marzio).
However, Spurs had to turn their attention to other options on deadline day after they could not agree on a transfer fee with the Nerazzurri for the defender (Fabrizio Romano).
It has now emerged that the 25-year-old has tested positive for coronavirus, just days after the transfer window closed.
The centre-back learned about the positive test while on international duty with Slovakia, during the eve of their Euro 2020 play-off semi-final against the Republic of Ireland for whom Matt Doherty is expected to feature this evening.
The report reveals that Skriniar is currently self-isolating, along with his Inter Milan team-mate Alessandro Bastoni, who has also tested positive.
