Report: Highly-rated youngster makes first start for Spurs academy side

Tottenham Hotspur under-18’s played out an exciting 2-2 draw with Arsenal under-18’s on the weekend.

The Gunners raced into a two-goal lead only for Spurs to hit back with two goals in the second half courtesy of strikes from J’Neil Bennett and Kion Etete.

Highly-rated youngster Yago Santiago made his first start for the side since joining the North London club and impressed during the 68 minutes that he featured.

The midfielder moved to Tottenham from Celta Vigo in the summer after enjoying a fantastic season at the Spanish club’s academy last campaign (El Desmarque). Santiago, who is known for his goal-scoring exploits hit double figures from midfield last season (HITC).

While the Spaniard made his debut coming off the bench in the 2-0 win against Southampton last month, he had to wait patiently for his first start.

The youngster will now be hoping to kick on and get a consistent run in the side in order to show his quality.

With the way the transfer market has become inflated over the last decade or so, recruiting top-quality youngsters into the academy set up has become more important than ever.

If Spurs want to continue competing with sides that have more financial muscle, then the club must spot and develop talented youngsters. Hopefully, Santiago lives up to his potential in North London.
