Report: Highly-rated youngster set to choose Spurs over Liverpool for this reason

Tottenham Hotspur have been strongly linked with a move for Fulham teenager Ryan Sessegnon this summer, after the team were relegated from the Premier League last season (Guardian).

Sessegnon is out of contract in the summer of 2020, meaning that Fulham will likely either have to sell him now for decent money, convince him to sign a new deal, or risk losing him on a free.

The Daily Star report that the 19-year-old is worth around £35m this transfer window and that Tottenham are in pole position to sign him.

However, the report also states that Liverpool are interested in signing the left-back as back-up to Andy Robertson for next season.

Bleacher Report add that Liverpool regularly sent scouts to Fulham games to watch Sessegnon last season. Despite this, they add that Sessegnon will join Tottenham because he wants to remain in London.

Sessegnon scored two and assisted six last season in the Premier League and is now on England duty at the U21 Euros.

Spurs Web Opinion:

I am a big fan of signing Sessegnon this summer, however, I think £35m is far too much money. I would only want Tottenham to spend £20m-£25m on the winger/left-back. If Fulham are determined to get more than that, then Spurs can simply wait and get him on a free if he is that keen on joining the club.
