Report: Hojbjerg rejected higher wages elsewhere to seal Spurs move

The Athletic have revealed that Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg had rejected offers from three other clubs this summer in order to complete a move to Tottenham Hotspur.

The midfielder admitted in his first interview with Spurs TV that he was delighted to complete the move and was hoping for a long stay in North London.

The Athletic claim that the 25-year-old was also wanted by Everton, Monaco and Ajax but that he had his heart set on a move to Spurs.

It is alleged that some of the offers he received including from Everton would have seen the Danish international earn a bigger salary than at Tottenham but that did not sway him.

The report claims that Hojbjerg was partly attracted by the size of the club and the facilities but there was one other crucial factor that convinced him – Jose Mourinho.

The former Bayern Munich man was reportedly very keen to work with Mourinho, whom he has admired since watching football in Copenhagen as a young boy.

It is also alleged that Hojbjerg also spoke to his international teammate Christian Eriksen and heard only good things about the Lilywhites.

The midfielder is said to be convinced that he can go on to win major trophies at the club.

Spurs Web Opinion

As some have pointed out already, what Hojbjerg will bring to the team in terms of his attitude and mentality, is perhaps just as important as what he would bring to the side in a footballing sense. The midfielder will get along well with Mourinho and will not be shy of calling out his teammates for their errors.
