Report: How Kulusevski helped Spurs to hijack a deadline day deal

Fabrizio Romano has revealed that Dejan Kulusevski played a key role in convincing his compatriot Lucas Bergvall to choose Tottenham Hotspur over Barcelona.

While Tottenham’s pursuit of Antonio Nusa ended in disappointment, the club have seemingly managed to secure the services of another young Scandinavian starlet, stealing Bergvall from under Barcelona’s nose.

The 17-year-old midfielder has been making waves in Swedish football since breaking into Djurgardens’ starting eleven at the start of the season and the teenager has already been capped for the senior national side.

Right up until deadline day, it was widely reported that Barcelona were the favourites to land the midfielder, although Spurs were continuing to work on hijacking the deal (Tom Barclay).

In the end, Tottenham’s efforts have seemingly paid off, with news breaking on Thursday night that the young midfielder had chosen to sign for the North London side over the Catalan giants (David Ornstein).

Kulusevski helped convince Bergvall to join Spurs

Romano has now taken to social media to explain that Kulusevski played a crucial role in Bergvall’s decision to arrive at Hotspur Way.

The journalist explained that the Tottenham winger spoke to his international teammate about life at the club and about working under Ange Postecoglou, which helped convince the midfielder that a move to the Premier League side would be the right choice for him.

While Kuklusevski’s intervention might have been crucial, Bergvall would have also witnessed the fact that several young players, including the likes of Pape Sarr and Destiny Udogie, have thrived under Postecoglou at Spurs.

That would have undoubtedly helped convince the teenager that a move to Tottenham would be the right step for him at this stage of his career.
