Report: How Man City’s transfer activity could trigger a Spurs departure

The Telegraph reports today that Manchester City are closing in on a £54 million deal for Juventus right back Joao Cancelo.

It is reported that Pep Guardiola wants the 25-year-old defender to provide competition to former Spurs man Kyle Walker for the right back slot.

The Portuguese international was outstanding in Turin last season helping Juventus to yet another Serie A title but it is claimed that new Juventus manager Maurizio Sarri is open to letting Cancelo go due to tactical reasons (Calcio Mercato).

The Times reported earlier that should Cancelo join City, Juventus have identified Tottenham full back Kieran Trippier as the man to replace him.

Now that Cancelo’s move to City looks a possibility, it could be that Italian giants could soon launch a bid for the Spurs full back.

Trippier has had a poor season for Tottenham after his heroics in the World Cup with England last summer with the club reportedly willing to listen to offers to both him and Aurier this summer (Evening Standard).

Spurs Web Opinion

If the asking price could always be a sticking point, if Juventus do make an approach for Trippier, then it could potentially be a good deal for all three parties. The England international looks like he needs a fresh start and Italian football would suit his game. Spurs meanwhile need someone who can provide more energy and pace from the right back position.
