Going to the knockout stages could not only prove decisive for the North Londoners in helping to attract top players to the club in January but it will also boost the club’s finances.

The Mirror have now broken down the prize money that teams stand to earn in various stages of the competition.

The report explains that the gross revenue from the 2022-23 Champions League, Europa League and Europa Conference League and the 2022 UEFA Super Cup is estimated to be €3.5billion (£3.019billion), of which €2.002bn (£1.727bn) will be shared for clubs participating in the group stage onwards.

Each win in the group stage sees clubs earn £2.4m while a draw will see them receive £802,000. In addition, qualifying for the round of 16 stage will see clubs earn an additional £8.2m, which means that Spurs have already earned prize money of £17m this season.

Here are the breakdowns of how much Tottenham could stand to receive based on how far they progress in the competition:

Quarter-finalists – £9.1m
Semi-finalists – £10.7m
Finalists – £13.3m with an additional £3.8m for the champions.

The Mirror explain that the competition winners can thus expect to earn £58.9m in total prize money, apart from the coefficient shares and market pool funds, which they will also receive a part of.

It is worth keeping in mind that these figures do not even take into account the additional matchday revenue which clubs will earn from the big clashes that take place at their stadiums. So, it is easy to see why being in the Champions League is a game-changer for clubs, in terms of revenue.
