Report: How much Sporting Lisbon want for Spurs-linked Manuel Ugarte

Tottenham Hotspur will be boosted by a recent report which claims Sporting Lisbon are prepared to sell Manuel Ugarte due to their financial situation.

Ugarte signed for the Portuguese giants in the summer of 2021 but could be set for a big move already at the end of the current campaign.

The Uruguayan has been in fine form this season across 42 appearances in all competitions (Transfermarkt).

His performances in the Champions League and the Europa League have caught the eye of top clubs in Europe.

Tottenham were first linked to Ugarte back in November of last year (A Bola), after the 22-year-old played against them in the Champions League.

According to a recent report from Record (19/04/23 as relayed by Sport Witness), Leeds United are also keen on Ugarte. However, the Yorkshire club would need to remain in the Premier League to rival Spurs for the player.

Whoever ends up making a move for Ugarte, it appears Sporting are coming to terms with the fact they will need to sell the midfielder this summer.

According to Leonino, Sporting’s relative failures this season, including the fact they are likely to miss out on Champions League qualification, means their financial situation dictates a big player must be sold.

Apparently, the club are “preparing to sell” one of their stars, and it is thought Ugarte is the prime candidate. It appears Sporting have been left with “no other alternative” but to cash in.

The report adds that Sporting would be looking for “significant financial gain” as a result of any transfer for Ugarte.

The expectation is that the Portuguese side will be hoping for a fee of around €60-80 million for the player (£53m – £71m).

Spurs Web Opinion

Just thinking about a midfield pairing of Manuel Ugarte and Rodrigo Bentancur, who play together for Uruguay, is a tantalising prospect.

The price does sound a bit steep, even for a young talent like Ugarte, but if Sporting need the money we could push that down to facilitate a deal perhaps.
