Report: How much Spurs have won in Champions League prize money this season

Football.London have revealed that Tottenham Hotspur stand to earn £31m due to their Champions League exploits even if they get knocked out in the round of sixteen stage.

The report reveals Spurs earned just £10.2m from their European adventure last season, with the Lilywhites competing in the first edition of the Europa Conference League in 2021-22 and exiting the competition in the group stages after one match was called off due to COVID cases at the club.

Football.London claim that Tottenham have already surpassed that figure this season as teams who qualify for the group stages of the Champions League earn prize money of £13.8m, while bonuses of £2.4m and £822,000 are paid for each win and draw respectively in the group stage.

Clubs who reach the Round of 16 earn an additional £8.4m, which brings Spurs’ earnings to £31m, regardless of the result of their tie with AC Milan.

It is explained that quarter-finalists make £9.3m, semi-finalists will get a further £11m, finalists £13.7m and the winners will receive an extra £3.9m, which means that Antonio Conte’s men will stand to earn prize money of £68.9m if they lift the trophy.

It is worth noting that this only talks about the prize money and does not even include the significant additional sum that Spurs would earn because of the increased matchday revenue from Champions League matches at home.

The kind of funds at play show just why it is so important for clubs to qualify for Europe’s premier club competition.
