Report: How much Spurs would have to pay to sign Morgan Gibbs-White

The Times have revealed that Tottenham Hotspur would have to spend a significant amount of money to sign Morgan Gibbs-White from Nottingham Forest this transfer window.

It has been widely reported over the past couple of weeks that Spurs are keeping an eye on Gibbs-White, who is having an impressive season at the City Ground (The Daily Mail).

However, various sources have suggested over recent days that Forest might be reluctant to cash in on the 23-year-old mid-season (Dean Jones – GiveMeSport).

Should Tottenham splash the cash on Gibbs-White?

Nuno Espirito Santo’s men have now been charged with alleged breaches of the Premier League’s profit and sustainability rules, and according to The Times’ latest update, the charge might change the club’s stance on various players.

The outlet says that Forest will prioritise selling players over buying them in this transfer window, as they look to show Premier League officials they are taking their charge for breaching financial rules seriously.

However, it is pointed out that their most sellable assets, including Gibbs-White, who is thought to be valued in excess of £50m, is considered ‘too important’ to be sold.

On the other hand, it is explained that the likes of Orel Mangala and Scott McKenna, who are considered surplus to requirements, are not likely to fetch a decent fee this month.

This thus leaves the Midlands club’s hierarchy in a difficult position as they aim to make a net profit at the end of this window even though they are looking to add some reinforcements to their squad.

Given the Forests’ financial position, Levy and co might sense an opportunity to put in a cheeky £35m-£40m bid for Gibbs-White towards the end of the transfer window to try and entice the City Ground hierarchy.
