Report: How much time Harry Kane will be given off after World Cup heartbreak

Harry Kane will look to return to action for Tottenham Hotspur as soon as possible, to put his World Cup heartbreak behind him, according to a report from the Evening Standard.

The 29-year-old enjoyed a fantastic first half of the domestic season before the international break, scoring 13 goals in 22 games, 12 of which came in the Premier League (Transfermarkt).

It was a fairly productive World Cup for Kane too, despite England’s premature exit from the tournament. The England captain scored two goals and provided three assists (Transfermarkt) as the Three Lions made it to the quarter-finals in Qatar.

Kane also went level with Wayne Rooney as England’s all-time top goalscorer on 53 goals, though the Spurs man achieved that feat in 40 fewer matches than the former Man United man (FourFourTwo).

Nevertheless, Kane’s World Cup campaign ended in devastating circumstances, with the star missing a penalty in the 84th minute which would have seen England pull level with France and more than likely take the game to extra time.

With England now out of the tournament, Kane will have his attention on returning to Spurs and preparing for the domestic season to resume. According to Dan Kilpatrick for the Evening Standard, the Spurs man is eager to get back on the pitch as soon as possible.

According to Kilpatrick, Kane “will have a week off before reporting back to Spurs next Monday, December 19.” It is expected Kane will take those seven days to recover before diving back in with Tottenham and getting himself fit and ready for the Brentford game on Boxing Day.

Kane tweeted in the aftermath of the France game, saying it would “take some time” to get over the defeat, but Kilpatrick’s report suggests the talismanic striker will be keen to put the pain behind him and let his football do the talking once more.

It could go one of two ways for Kane here; either he comes back firing on all cylinders and uses that penalty miss to motivate him to succeed this season (and beyond), or it will be something of a burden he has to carry and may impact his form. I firmly believe we will see the former, and can expect big things from Kane in the second half of the season.
