Report: How much Tottenham are willing to pay to sign Clement Lenglet

Tottenham Hotspur and Barcelona are busy trying to agree on a fee for Clement Lenglet, and both clubs believe a transfer can be completed by the end of June.

Lenglet spent the 2022/23 campaign with Tottenham on a long-term loan deal from the Catalan giants.

The Frenchman racked up 35 appearances for the Lilywhites, scoring one goal and contributing two assists across all competitions (Transfermarkt).

The experienced centre-back was brought in to alleviate the myriad issues in the Spurs defence, and Lenglet did a solid job throughout the season, albeit without setting the world alight.

Lenglet’s time at Tottenham Hotspur has come to an end, at least for now, but there has been plenty of talk surrounding that move becoming a permanent one.

According to Diario Sport, Spurs are keen to keep hold of Lenglet, and Barcelona could be willing to sell for as little as £5 million.

However, Matt Law told Last Word on Spurs that the North London club may end up deciding against signing the 27-year-old.

As things stand, it seems a move is getting closer for Clement Lenglet, as Sport.es claim the two clubs are hoping to get the transfer done by the end of this month.

Apparently, both Barcelona and Tottenham are now “convinced” the deal will “eventually” be concluded. A meeting was set to take place this week to thrash out the matter, but that has now been postponed.

Despite this, it is believed there is “enough room” to get the transfer over the line by the deadline of June 30 that Barcelona has been “demanding”.

Spurs expected to low-ball Barcelona for Lenglet

It is thought Spurs’ offer will be “low,” expected to be around the €5 million mark (£4.27m).

Barcelona are believed to be happy enough with this, as the savings on Lenglet’s contract “would be very important” for the Spanish side.

The negotiations were initially “complicated” due to Lenglet’s salary, but Tottenham are known to be prepared to offer him a long contract that would help accommodate the weekly wage. This can only happen if the transfer fee is low, however.

When it comes to Lenglet himself, it is believed he is “delighted” with the idea of staying at Spurs.

Spurs Web Opinion

I was dubious about keeping Lenglet permanently, but if we can get him for that kind of transfer fee then I see no harm.

He’s a decent player with plenty of experience, and can definitely be an important member of the Spurs squad.
