Report: How much Tottenham earned from the Premier League this season

A report has revealed how much Premier League clubs have earned this season thanks to their final league position, with Tottenham Hotspur suffering having failed to qualify for European football next year.

Tottenham endured a miserable campaign all around, with poor results and performances leading to a massive under-achievement this term.

The North London club finished fourth last season, thus qualifying for the Champions League, which is incredibly lucrative to those who make it.

This year’s eighth-place finish leaves Spurs without any form of continental football next year, and will cost the club financially, too.

The club is already likely to have to deal with not being able to attract the calibre of players we are used to at Tottenham, with no European competition to offer prospective signings.

Now, a report from The Sun has revealed the extent to which Spurs have lost out financially due to their sub-par performance this season.

While the Premier League do not release exact details of how much is paid to each club, it is thought each place in the table is worth £2.2 million.

Broadcast revenue is distributed almost equally, with some clubs receiving slightly more if they are shown more often on TV. The broadcast fund was around £84 million last season, and is believed to be higher this year.

Bottom club Southampton are expected to pocket £128.2 million. Climbing up the table, this indicates Spurs will earn £154.6 million for finishing eighth.

Chelsea are expected to miss out on a further £70 million as a result of failing to qualify for Europe, and Spurs are set to lose out in much the same way.

While the club is doing absolutely fine from a financial point of view, this chunk of money we missed out on is certainly going to have an impact, and will provide the board with a perfect excuse for spending less this summer.
