Report: How Rodrigo Bentancur got on in 86-minute stint for Uruguay

It seems Rodrigo Bentancur is well and truly back, as he just put in a brilliant performance for Uruguay in a 3-0 win over Bolivia in World Cup qualifying.

Spurs fans have waited a long time to see Rodrigo Bentancur back in action, and they got what they wanted just before the international break with the midfielder getting minutes under his belt for the first time since an ACL injury back in February.

The 25-year-old will need to be patient working his way back into the lineup for Ange Postecoglou‘s side, with Yves Bissouma and Pape Sarr both in fine form this term. However, the injury to James Maddison may have given Bentancur an opportunity to play higher up the pitch.

Being patient isn’t something Bentancur and Uruguay boss, Marcelo Bielsa are seemingly willing to do, though. The Spurs man was put straight back into the national team set up for this international break, playing 30 minutes in the win over Argentina last week.

Bentancur’s passing masterclass

Now, Bentancur has made the starting lineup for the game against Bolivia today, getting 86 minutes under his belt. And, according to Fotmob, the dynamic midfielder was the second-best player on the pitch with an 8.3 out of 10 rating, with only two-goal hero Darwin Nunez faring better.

Bentancur may not have come away from the game with any goal contributions, but with 92 out of 100 passes completed, it’s safe to say the Tottenham star had a huge impact on the game.

He also contributed 17 passes into the final third, the joint most of any player (alongside Federico Valverde).

Defensively, too, Bentancur was up to his usual tricks, with three interceptions and a whopping ten recoveries, the latter being three higher than any other player in the game.

Spurs Web Opinion

A classy performance from Bentancur, but that’s exactly what we’ve come to expect from him now. Hopefully, he can bring this kind of form back to Spurs and help us get over the absence of James Maddison.
