Report: How some Spurs insiders feel about Europa League qualification

The Athletic have revealed that those inside Tottenham remain very hungry to return to the Champions League and to test themselves in the competition next season.

Following the latest round of results in Europe, it is now clear that Spurs would have to pip Aston Villa to fourth place to qualify for the Champions League.

However, it is fair to say that some Tottenham fans are not overly enthused about returning to Europe’s premier club competition and would rather have a crack at the Europa League.

In fact, it would seem that Ange Postecoglou himself does not see Champions League qualification as the be-all and end-all, with the Australian remarking recently that finishing fourth is no guarantee of progress next season (Reuters).

Fourth place is still the target internally for Spurs

The Athletic have now explained what the feeling internally is at Hotspur Way about re-entering the Champions League.

The report explains that some find it hard to fathom why some fans would not want to be in the competition as they remain keen on testing themselves at the highest level.

The report said: “Internally, some at Spurs acknowledge that a year in the Europa League could have some benefits. Generally, though, there is a desire at Tottenham for the group to test themselves at the highest level.

“Some find it odd that anyone connected with the club wouldn’t want Spurs to be competing against the best.”

Spurs Web Opinion

I would personally much rather see us be in the Champions League than the Europa League, but I do understand the other side of the argument as we would have a realistic chance of going all the way in the Europa League and lifting the trophy.
