Report: How Tottenham beat Man United to the signing of Ndombele

Tottenham Hotspur finally announced the signing on Tanguy Ndombele from Lyon this week after a lengthy summer transfer saga.

The French midfielder signed a six-year contract, with Spurs paying an initial fee of £53.8m to Lyon which could rise to £62.8m after future add-ons (BBC).

This made the midfield powerhouse the most expensive Tottenham signing in history, overtaking Davinson Sanchez.

After selling Mousa Dembele back in January of this year, Pochettino had lost one of his favourite central midfielders, but it looks as if he has finally replaced him.

Manchester United were also said to be interested in securing the signature of the former Lyon man, but blew the chance.

L’Equipe say that United were too busy attempting to resolve the future of Paul Pogba and subsequently failed to act quickly enough to get Ndombele.

Ed Woodward, the United chairman, is said to be unwilling to sell Paul Pogba for any amount of money this summer (Sun).
