Report: How Wayne Rooney could impact the futures of two Spurs players this summer

Wayne Rooney has been confirmed as the new Plymouth Argyle head coach, with the Man Utd legend thus expected to have a big say on whether Ashley Phillips and Alfie Devine head back on loan to the Championship side.

Both Phillips and Devine joined Plymouth on loan in January and both players played a key part in helping the club secure safety in the Championship by the skin of their teeth.

While the centre-back was a regular in the Pilgrims backline and delivered solid displays, the attacking midfielder was initially in and out of the side, playing in a number of different positions.

However, Devine finished the season strongly, delivering one of his best performances in the club’s 1-0 win over Hull in their final game of the season, a result which ensured that they avoided relegation to League One.

Will Wayne Rooney want Devine and Phillips?

Earlier this month, Plymouth Herald reported that the second-tier side had already reached out to Spurs to discuss the possibility of re-signing the duo.

The decision on whether to pursue another loan deal for Devine and Phillips will now be made by Rooney, with reports revealing that the 38-year-old will soon be confirmed as the man who replaces Ian Foster at the Home Park Stadium dugout.

Spurs Web Opinion

Rooney loves working with young players and so one would think that the United legend will not be against the idea of re-signing the Tottenham duo. Having said that, Rooney will have his own tactical ideas and he might perhaps prefer other alternatives to Devine and Phillips.
