After 11 years at the club, Hugo Lloris looks set to leave Tottenham Hotspur in the January transfer window, with MLS side Los Angeles FC discussing terms with the Frenchman.
Lloris has not featured for Spurs since April, when he was replaced at half time during the 6-1 defeat against Newcastle United. Injury saw the veteran keeper miss the remainder of the 2022/23 campaign, with Fraser Forster taking his place.
Since then, the summer arrival of Guglielmo Vicario has well and truly put the final nail in the coffin for Lloris’ Tottenham career.
Still, Lloris will go down as something of a legend at Tottenham Hotspur, having made 444 appearances for the Lilywhites during his time at the club (Transfermarkt). He captained the side from August 2015 through to last season.
There had been speculation that Saudi Arabian clubs would come knocking for Lloris in the upcoming winter window (The Sun), while there had also been talk of a temporary move to Premier League side Newcastle United to cover for the injury of Nick Pope (The Mirror).
Lloris is heading to the States
Now, however, it seems Lloris has found his next destination, with a move to the United States appearing to be on the cards for the 37-year-old. That’s according to the Daily Mail, who claim Los Angeles FC are “in talks” with Lloris.
MORE SPURS STORIES
Apparently, the discussions are now in the “final stages” and, despite his contract ending next summer, it looks likely a move away from Spurs will be “accelerated” thanks to interest from the MLS side.
Spurs Web Opinion
There may not be a place for Hugo Lloris in the Tottenham squad any longer, but what a career he has had, both with Spurs and with the France national team. We will forever be indebted to our former skipper, and hopefully he can get this move sorted as soon as possible and get back to playing again soon.
