Arsenal legend gives Spurs top four prediction after Gunners win over Chelsea

Former Arsenal striker Ian Wright has had his say on how he sees the top-four race playing out for the remainder of the season, favouriting Spurs despite Arsenal’s victory over Chelsea.

Arsenal got the better of the Blues where defensive mishaps were the order of the day and the Gunners ran out 4-2 winners on Wednesday.

Wright told Premier League Productions (20/4/22): “You look at Spurs’ run-in and you’d probably fancy that.”

The Lilywhite’s have to travel to Anfield and of course, face their North London rivals at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium, but otherwise face teams outside those challenging for Europe.

Arsenal, on the other hand, face Manchester United and West Ham in their next two games before that trip across to N17.

Wright did give his old side some hope though: “But you look at Arsenal today and that should give them a lot of impetus to keep going forward, especially with a Man United team that you don’t mind playing.”

Wednesday’s win did come after three defeats to Crystal Palace, Brighton and Southampton, so Spurs fans will likely hope the Chelsea result was somewhat of a fluke.

SpursWeb’s opinion

Having a slightly easier run-in is all well and good but if Arsenal can go to Chelsea and win, then it may be difficult with a trip to Anfield on the horizon for Conte’s men.

However, prior to each team’s last fixtures, Spurs were in far better form and if they play the rest of the season as they did against the likes of Everton and Newcastle, it will be tricky for the Gunners to stay in the race.

Ultimately the north London derby may prove to be the crucial factor and with home advantage, it’s difficult not to favour the Lilywhites in that match and the Champions League race.
