Report implies that Harry Kane’s 2019 stats show he has gone off the boil

Tottenham Hotspur have been poor so far this season, with the vast majority of the players disappointing across the first eleven games of the season.

However, some would argue that Harry Kane has been one of the standout performers, simply let down by his defence this season.

Kane has seven goals in ten games so far this season across all competitions for Spurs, as well as five more for England in recent months (Wikipedia).

However, the Daily Mail have taken a deeper look at the England captain’s statistics and are now implying that Kane is perhaps not performing at as high a level as some believe.

The report states that Kane has scored 14 goals in all competitions for Spurs in 2019, with five of these coming from the penalty spot. That makes up 35% of his total goals. In comparison, Kane bagged 46 without penalties in 2017 and 29 in 2018.

Excluding penalties, Kane is behind a number of the top forwards in the League. With just nine goals in 2019, Kane is 18 behind Sadio Mane, 15 behind Raheem Sterling, and 12 behind Aguero and Aubameyang. He is even four behind teammate Heung Min Son.

Kane also has a lower shot conversion this season (21%), than Abraham (31%), Aguero (27%), Aubameyang (28%), and many more.

Spurs Web Opinion:

I think Kane looks sharp and impressive at the moment. Unfortunately, large parts of his impressive play come when he drops deep to collect the ball and bring others into play. The creativity at Spurs is so poor at the moment that Kane is feeding off scraps, and doing it rather well. Some creative players at full-flow in this Spurs set up would bring 40 goals a season for Kane.
