Report: Injured Spurs star pictured back in training ahead of Marseille clash

PA Sport journalist George Sessions has revealed that Bryan Gil was seen training with the Tottenham squad ahead of their Champions League opener against Marseille.

Champions League football returns to the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium for the first time in two and half years as Antonio Conte’s men get their campaign underway on Wednesday.

Spurs have been placed in group D along with Marseille, Sporting Lisbon and Eintracht Frankfurt, with the Ligue 1 side being their first opponents.

The Lilywhites will be hoping to get three points on the board tomorrow but Igor Tudor’s side are no pushovers, having won five and drawn one of their six matches so far this season.

It seems like Tottenham have been boosted by the return of Bryan Gil, who has missed their last three matches due to an injury.

However, Sessions revealed that, unlike Gil, Lucas Moura was not with the squad during the opening training session, which indicates that the Brazilian has not yet recovered in time for the clash on Wednesday.

I do expect Gil to be on the bench as Conte does not have too many attacking options since Lucas is out injured. It is vital that we get three points tomorrow or the path to the knockout stages will suddenly look quite tricky, with back-to-back away games in Lisbon and Frankfurt to follow.
