Report: Injured Tottenham player is now ruled out of the World Cup

Tyc Sports journalist Gaston Edul has revealed that on-loan Tottenham midfielder Giovani Lo Celso has now been ruled out of the World Cup.

Despite his indifferent form at club level, Lo Celso has been a vital cog for Argentina over recent years but Lionel Scaloni will now seemingly have to find another solution after the midfielder went down with a hamstring injury in Villarreal’s 1-0 defeat to Athletic Bilbao last Sunday.

Journalist Roy Nemer offered an update on the midfielder’s situation last week, explaining that while Spurs wanted him to undergo surgery, the player wanted to avoid going under the knife to give himself a chance of featuring in the World Cup.

Cesar Luis Merlo subsequently reported that the 26-year-old’s chances of featuring in the World Cup looked increasingly slim and that the player would make a decision this week on whether to go ahead with the surgery.

Edul has now taken to social media to reveal that Lo Celso has decided to have an operation on his hamstring. The journalist added that the decision rules out any chance the on-loan Spurs man had of featuring in Qatar.

Missing the World Cup must be heartbreaking for Lo Celso, given how desperately the Argentineans want to lift the trophy to seal Messi’s legacy, in what will likely be the great man’s last major global tournament.

However, the midfielder seems to have made the most sensible decision for his career as the last thing he would want is to aggravate the problem, given that he still has his peak years ahead of him.
