Report: Injured Tottenham player now considering undergoing surgery

According to a report in Il Secolo XIX (as relayed by Football Italia), Harry Winks is considering undergoing surgery on his ankle after being frustrated in his attempts to return to action.

Winks is yet to make the matchday squad or even train with his Sampdoria teammates since making a loan switch to the Serie A club in the summer.

Il Secolo XIX have explained that the midfielder is now considering his options and is torn between whether to undergo an operation to fix his issue or to opt for a more conservative treatment.

It is explained that should the England international go under the knife, he would be sidelined for three or four more months. The report states that if Winks does undergo surgery, Sampdoria could look to send the 26-year-old back to North London.

However, it is alleged that Spurs would still prefer the midfielder to stay at the Italian club for the remainder of the season even if he opts for surgery.

Il Secolo XIX add that Winks will meet with an international specialist on Monday before making a final decision.

Spurs Web Opinion

Had Winks or the medical staff at Spurs anticipated that the ankle injury would be this bad, the midfielder would have undergone surgery during the summer in an effort to be fit a couple of months into the season.

The fact that he also passed a medical with Sampdoria suggests that the persistent nature of the problem has caught everyone, including the player himself, by surprise.
