Report: Inter have a ‘clear advantage’ over Spurs in race for central defender

Inter Milan are said to have moved ahead of Spurs in the race to sign Hellas Verona defender Marash Kumbulla, according to Italian news outlet TuttoMercatoWeb,

Kumbulla has performed well during his first campaign in Serie A after helping Verona win promotion to the Italian top-flight last season.

The young central defender has looked comfortable in possession and has shown that he is capable of displaying a physical side to his game when up against a target man.

Tottenham were linked with the 20-year-old during the January transfer window (Firenze Viola) and have been backed to return for his services in the summer (Gazzette dello Sport via Sport Witness).

The Albanian international will reportedly available for around €30million once the transfer market opens.

TuttoMercatoWeb claim that Inter have prioritised a move for Kumbulla and have a clear advantage over the chasing pack including Spurs.

While Spurs and Liverpool are also mentioned as potential suitors, the report backs Antonio Conte’s side to complete a move for the Verona stopper.

Spurs Web Opinion

I can see why we would want Kumbulla as a replacement for Jan Vertonghen as the Albanian has very similar qualities to the Spurs defender. He is a natural left-sided centre-back and like Vertonghen, is good on the ball and is a very good reader of the game. However, with just one good season under his belt at the highest level, his arrival would come with some risk.
