Report: Inter Milan are drafting a plan to beat Tottenham to 26-year-old

According to the print edition of Corriere dello Sport (as relayed by Sport Witness), Inter Milan are drafting a plan to beat Tottenham to Albert Gudmundsson even though they are not able to pay Genoa’s asking price for the player this summer.

Over the last couple of weeks, various Italian outlets have suggested that Tottenham hold the upper hand over both Juventus and Inter in the race for Gudmundsson’s signature as Genoa’s demands are too high for the two Italian sides (SportItalia).

Spurs received a further boost this week as the versatile forward admitted in an interview with The Telegraph that he harbours ambitions of playing in the Premier League.

Inter Milan draft plan to beat Tottenham

Corriere now say that Inter have not given up on their efforts to land Gudmundsson even though they cannot afford to meet Genoa’s demands of €35m (£30m).

The Nerazzurri are allegedly hoping to sign the player on loan with an obligation to buy for next summer but do not want any loan fee attached.

In exchange, they are prepared to send one of their young, up-and-coming players to Genoa but also want to add a buyback clause to the deal in case the player comes good.

I do not see why this kind of offer would appeal to Genoa over Tottenham potentially offering the fee upfront. Spurs could also use Djed Spence as a bargaining chip in the negotiations over the Iceland international.
