Report: Inter Milan are now keen on signing Spurs-linked centre-back

According to Gazzetta dello Sport (as relayed by Football Italia), Inter Milan remain keen on snapping up Chelsea centre-back Trevoh Chalobah, who is also rumoured to be on Tottenham’s radar.

After breaking into Chelsea’s senior side at the start of last season, Chalobah went on to make 31 appearances across all competitions for Thomas Tuchel’s men in 2021/22 (Transfermakrt).

Antonio Conte worked with the centre-back during his time at Chelsea, even naming the youngster on the bench for the 2018 FA Cup Final.

The Evening Standard reported over the weekend that Tottenham were interested in signing Chalobah before the transfer window closes.

The report claimed that Spurs face competition from Inter and Roma for the 23-year-old, who was backed to seek a move away from Stamford Bridge amidst fears of not getting regular game time this season.

Gazzetta have now stated that Inter would prefer signing Chalobah over Lazio centre-back Francesco Acerbi. The report reveals that a deal for Acerbi would be easy to do for the Nerazzurri since Lazio are willing to loan out the 34-year-old.

However, Simone Inzaghi’s side are thought to be eyeing moves for one of Chalobah or Borrusia Dortmund’s Manuel Akanji instead of the Lazio star.

The report adds that as things stand, Chelsea are unwilling to send the England Under-21 international on loan to the San Siro.

Given the change in ownership at Chelsea, it would appear like Daniel Levy is now open to dealing with the Blues once again. Chalobah would be a very good replacement for Tanganga as the Chelsea man is homegrown and proved last season that he fits naturally into a back three.
