Report: Inter Milan backed to reignite interest in Spurs-linked attacker

CalcioMercato have claimed that Inter Milan are set to reignite their interest in Tottenham target Marus Thuram in January, having missed out on the Borussia Monchengladbach star during the summer of 2021.

Thuram is currently in Qatar as part of France’s World Cup squad but it seems increasingly likely that the forward’s future lies away from Gladbach, if reports over recent weeks are to be believed.

Nicolo Schira revealed this week that the Bundesliga club are willing to sell the winger for just €10m (£8.6m) in January to avoid losing him for free when his contract runs out in the summer transfer window.

90 min reported last week that Tottenham are eyeing a move for a France international, and the Lilywhites’ interest in the winger was subsequently backed up by Gazzetta dello Sport (17/11/22 as relayed by Sport Witness), who added that they could face competition from their local rivals Arsenal.

The Sun claimed a couple of days ago that Newcastle United are also eyeing a move for the Gladbach star as the Magpies try to bolster their chances of qualifying for the Champions League.

According to CalcioMercato’s latest update, Inter are also keen on landing Thuram in January after their pursuit of the winger fell through 18 months ago.

The report explains that Simone Inzaghi’s men tried to snap up the Frenchman in the summer of 2021 as a replacement for Romelu Lukaku but called off their efforts after the player picked up a knee injury during negotiations.

The Nerazzurri have now allegedly reignited their pursuit of Thuram, owing to his current contract situation.

Thuram will have no shortage of interest from England, Spain and Italy, given his current contract situation. That puts the 25-year-old in a position of strength, in terms of the salary he can demand from his next employers.

I suspect he will be wary of joining Spurs as he might struggle to get regular game time at the club when compared to the likes of Newcastle United and Inter Milan.
