Report: Inter Milan could have advantage in race for Spurs-linked defender

CalcioMercato have claimed that Inter Milan hold an interest in Bayer Leverkusen centre-back Piero Hincapie, who was reported to be on Tottenham’s radar during the summer transfer window.

Hincapie has won many admirers with his impressive displays since moving to Germany in the summer of 2021.

The centre-back was linked with a move to Tottenham in the summer, with Revolo journalist Marcos Duran stating back in June that both Spurs and AC Milan had spoken to the 20-year-old’s representatives regarding a summer transfer.

Hincapie stayed put in Leverkusen but The Express claimed earlier this week that Tottenham remain one of two front-runners for the Ecuador international’s signature, along with Atletico Madrid.

However, if CalcioMecato’s latest update is to be believed, Inter are keen on adding defensive reinforcements in January, with the Bundesliga star said to be among the names on the club’s wishlist.

The report adds that the Nerazzurri hierarchy have ‘excellent relations’ with Leverkusen, which could work to their advantage in the pursuit of Hincapie.

Spurs Web Opinion

Spurs likely explored Hincapie in the summer as an alternative to the likes of Lenglet and Bastoni in the summer. I do not think Antonio Conte will prioritise singing a left-sided centre-back in January, which is why the North London club are unlikely to make a move for the Leverkusen star.
