Report: Inter Milan set to beat Tottenham to alleged Antonio Conte target

Tuttosport have claimed that Inter Milan are set to win the race for rumoured Tottenham target Andrea Onana.

Onana has missed the last nine months of action after being banned by UEFA for testing positive for the forbidden substance, Furosemide, with the 25-year-old claiming that he took his wife’s medicine by mistake.

90 min reported a few days ago that the Ajax goalkeeper, whose contract runs out at the end of the season, is not expected to sign a new deal at the Johan Cruijff Arena.

The report claimed that Antonio Conte was keen on bringing the 25-year-old to North London, with the Italian wanting a goalkeeper who is adept at playing out from the back.

It was asserted that Spurs could pursue the Cameroonian international irrespective of whether captain Hugo Lloris signs a new contract.

However, if Tuttosport’s latest update is to be believed, Inter are now set to beat the North London club to the Ajax star’s signature.

The report claims that the Nerazzurri have reached a verbal agreement on a four-year deal with Onana. The goalkeeper is expected to put pen on paper to the contract at the beginning of 2022.

While Lloris has certainly improved his distribution over the last four or five years, that is still arguably the biggest weakness in his game. So, I can see why Conte might want to land a keeper like Onana, who is good with the ball at his feet.

However, there are other areas of the pitch that are much bigger priorities for Spurs to address. So, I expect Hugo to be handed a new deal and remain as our number one for the time being.
