Report: Inter Milan warn Bastoni of ‘painful divorce’ amid Spurs links

Inter Milan have reportedly told Alessandro Bastoni’s representatives that his exit may be required for the good of the club if a bid of around €60million (£51.4million) is received, according to CalcioMercato.

The 23-year-old is said to be happy at Inter Milan and given his involvement with the Italian national team believes a move to England could further complicate his prospects of gaining further caps.

The report claims that Inter would make him understand that a painful divorce’ could occur if a transfer bid satisfies their demands.

The central defender has two years left to run on his current contract at the San Siro.

Tottenham have been heavily linked with a move for Bastoni, with Antonio Conte said to consider the left-sided central defender as the perfect partner to play alongside Eric Dier and Cristian Romero at the heart of the defence (Daily Mail).

Conte has previous experience of working first-hand with Bastoni after the pair helped Inter to the Serie A title in the 2020/21 campaign.

Given Inter’s financial difficulties, it appears that if a sizeable offer is made they will look to offload one of their star players with Bastoni one of those at the front of the queue, albeit against his will.

Whether Spurs would be prepared to shell out around £50million remains to be seen, although they do have previous form for looking to structure payments across as many as five years which would certainly help to free up funds for other targets.
