Report issues update on Dayot Upamecano amidst Tottenham and Arsenal interest

Rumoured Tottenham Hotspur target, Dayot Upamecano, is set to put pen to paper on a new contract with RB Leipzig, according to reports from Germany.

Upamecano has been linked with a move to Spurs for the past few weeks with reports suggesting that Jose Mourinho was keen on bringing the centre-back to North London (Don Balon).

The likes of Manchester United (Express) and Arsenal (Daily Star) were set to challenge Spurs for the Frenchman’s signature, but Soccer Link in France reported earlier in the week that the defender had an agreement in place to join Bayern Munich.

Sky Sports in Germany have now poured cold water over these reports by revealing that the 21-year-old is close to signing a one-year extension with RB Leipzig.

The report reveals that Upamecano has agreed to extend his stay at the club until the summer of 2022. However, it is asserted that the contract has an exit clause that would allow the centre-half to leave Leipzig next summer.

Landing Upamecano this summer was always going to be a long-shot given the financial constraints involved. If the above report is true and his contract does have a release clause for next summer, we could potentially return for his signature. However, that will also depend on who we bring in this summer.
