Report: Italian club ‘continue to ask’ about signing Spurs midfielder on loan

Multiple Italian outlets are now reporting that Napoli have still not given up on their pursuit of Giovani Lo Celso.

Prior to the start of the summer, it looked like the writing was on the wall for Lo Celso at Spurs, with most Tottenham fans expecting the Argentine to be part of the mass exodus from the club.

However, the situation has now completely changed over the last few weeks as the 27-year-old has been one of the club’s standout performers in pre-season.

Ange Postecoglou has admitted that he likes the midfielder, remarking that his style of football suits the former Real Betis man (Football.London).

Napoli still knocking at the door for Gio Lo Celso

However, reports from Italy are now claiming that Napoli still believe they have a chance of signing the Tottenham man.

The print edition of Corriere dello Sport (as relayed by Sport Witness) has asserted that the Serie A side ‘continue to ask’ Spurs about the availability of Lo Celso.

The outlet claims that the club wish to sign the Argentina international on a loan deal with an option to make it permanent next summer.

This has also been backed up by Il Mattino, who say that Lo Celso is ‘still in the running’ as one of the options to bolster Napoli’s midfield, with last season’s Scudetto winners said to be exploring a loan move for the Tottenham man.

The publication adds that if the deal does materialise, it will only do so towards the end of the transfer window.

Spurs Web Opinion

It sounds like Napoli are hoping that Spurs would make Lo Celso available in the last week or so of the transfer window after they bring other midfielders through the door.

However, even in that scenario, I fail to see why Tottenham would want to loan the 27-year-old rather than sell him, particularly given that he has just two years left on his contract.
