Report: Italian club emerge as potential candidate to sign Emerson Royal from Spurs

Tottenham Hotspur right wing-back Emerson Royal has emerged as a potential candidate to replace Denzel Dumfries at Inter Milan, according to the print edition of Italian news outlet Corriere dello Sport (22/12/22).

The 23-year-old was overlooked by Brazil boss Tite for their World Cup squad in Qatar, but has been a regular at club level having started eleven of Tottenham’s fifteen Premier League fixtures, of which he was suspended for three following his red card at Arsenal (transfermarkt).

Royal continues to receive criticism for his performances with former Spurs midfielder Jamie O’Hara claiming in October that he would pay £5 million out of his own pocket to see him depart the north Londoners (talkSPORT).

The report claims that talks between the two talks have not taken place over a switch to Italy yet, as Inter want to know what Tottenham’s intentions are for the former Barcelona player.

Royal has proven time and time again, especially in the attacking half of the pitch that he is simply not up to the required standard. Matt Doherty can feel slightly aggrieved that he has not had more game time considering he is at least able to provide a better ball into the penalty area for the likes of Harry Kane. His future could rest upon what Tottenham decide to do in the January window, with Sporting’s Pedro Porro heavily linked with a move.
