Report: Italian giants in advanced talks with experienced Spurs star

Tottenham Hotspur are currently set to lose one of their most experienced players this summer.

Defensive stalwart Jan Vertonghen’s contract is set to expire and there has been no agreement over extending his stay in North London.

Italian news outlet Tuttosport claim that Inter Milan are closing in on reaching a deal with the Belgian defender.

The report claims that Vertonghen’s relationship with his compatrot Romelu Lukaku is said to be a factor in a potential move to the San Siro.

Inter are said to be prepared to hand the 32-year-old a two-year contract with the option of a further season.

Football Insider reported earlier this week that Tottenham are bracing for life without the former Ajax player after he rebuffered their offer of a one-year contract while the player was seeking a minimum of a two-year deal to remain at the club.

Vertonghen has seen his playing time somewhat limited this season after losing his place in the starting eleven with Jose Mourinho preferring to play academy graduate Japhet Tanganga since the turn of the year (transfermarkt).
